Watch site Hodinkee has named veteran technology executive Andy Shin (pictured) its new chief product and technology officer.
In his new role, Shin will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of new digital products and services for Hodinkee’s properties. He is the first person to hold the position at the 13-year-old site.
Shin has more than 20 years’ experience building software for consumer internet and e-commerce companies. Prior to joining Hodinkee, Shin was the chief technology officer at Goat, the world’s leading pre-owned sneaker marketplace.
Prior to that, Shin cofounded and served as chief technology officer for several venture capital–backed startups, including Vaunte, a high-end fashion marketplace; Shift, a technology-based advertising platform; and social media site Togetherville. The last two were acquired by Brand Networks and Walt Disney Co., respectively.
He also served as a technology consultant for Fortune 500 companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Columbia University.
“Andy has played a significant role in the development and growth of some of today’s most successful e-commerce marketplaces,” said Hodinkee CEO Toby Bateman in a statement. “Andy will play an instrumental role in helping to achieve our goal of being the destination that brings out the best of what the watch world has to offer.”
Added Shin in the same statement: “Over the past decade, Hodinkee has been an industry innovator, from its original content and storytelling to demonstrating that a luxury watch–buying experience could be had online. … I am excited by the opportunity to help build new products and services that will create greater value for our customers and community.”
In December 2020, Hodinkee announced it had raised $40 million in new funding. At the same time, Bateman was appointed CEO, replacing founder Benjamin Clymer. In February, the site purchased pre-owned watch site Crown & Caliber.
